Carol Dean Gilson

Carol D. Gilson, 80, of Pender died at his home on Monday, July 9, 2007. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2007 at 10:30 A.M. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Bancroft, Nebraska; Father Paul Ortmeier will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Bancroft. The visitation will continue at 6:30 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with a vigil service at 7:00 P.M. Burial will be in the Bancroft City Cemetery. Carol was born in Winnebago, Nebraska on August 9, 1926, the son of Mack and Eleanor (Whittaker) Gilson. At an early age, Carol moved to Macy, Nebraska with his parents. After school, Carol entered the United States Navy during WW II. He was married to Joyce Sailors on August 18, 1946 at Walthill, Nebraska. They lived in California where he drove a bus from California to Las Vegas until the early 1960’s. He then entered the entertainment business. Over a period of 30 years, he worked as a captain of transportation for some of Hollywood’s biggest stars. He retired in 1989 and the couple moved back to Nebraska. On November 20, 1993, Joyce died in an automobile accident. Carol enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid gardener and loved to visit with his friends. Carol is survived by his children: Greg and wife Mary Pat Gilson of Kettle Falls, Washington, Rita and husband Greg Isner of Pender, Nebraska, Marty and wife Lori Gilson of Wisner, Nebraska, Teresa and husband James Crowe of Harlingen, Texas, 12 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, sisters Alice Lang and Genevieve Kelly. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joyce, son Maxie, a brother and two sisters.
