Eleanor Manning, 92, of Wakefield, Nebraska, formerly of Pender, Ne, died on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at the Wakefield Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 2, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Pender, with the Rev. Neal Allen officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Munderloh Funeral Home in Pender. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, Ne. For those wishing to leave condolences for the family, please visit www.munderlohfuneralhome.com Eleanor Lucile McGuire Manning was born on July 19, 1915 on the farm west of Pender, the daughter of Frank (John Francis) and Carrie Harriet Sampson McGuire. She lived on the farm all her life except while teaching and attending Wayne State College. She is a graduate of Wayne State College in Wayne, Nebraska. She taught school at District 73 in Wayne County for one year, District 19 in Thurston County for nine years, as well as District 3 for two years, nine years in Rosalie, Nebraska and twenty years at Pender Public School in Pender, Nebraska and later substituted there. She was married to Hurschul A. Manning of Rosalie on February 14, 1942. He served in the Ninth Air Force during WW II. The couple had four children: twins Gary and Ann, Mary Jean and Joan. Hurschul died on November 24, 1985. Hurschul and Eleanor took in Agnes (McGuire) Habrock at the age of eleven months after the death of her mother. Eleanor retired in 1978 due to her mother’s illness and cared for her until she went to the Care Center at Pender. Eleanor enjoyed her family, reading, sewing, crocheting, gardening, watching T.V., music, sports and more. Eleanor was a member of the United Church of Pender, where she served on the ladies aid, she was a member of the Pender V.F.W. Auxiliary, the Woman’s Club at Wayne, where she served in many offices and as President, a 4H leader and was named teacher of the year while at Pender. Eleanor is survived a son Gary and wife Yvonne Manning of Bennington, Nebraska, by daughters Ann and husband Gary Splittgerber of Las Vegas, Nevada, Mary Jean and husband Bob Jones of Allen, Nebraska, her niece Agnes and husband Verdel Habrock of Pender, Nebraska, brother-in-law Larry Manning, of Sioux City, Iowa, as well as eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren and other nieces and nephews. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hurschul, her daughter Joan and son-in-law Richard Zimmerer, granddaughter Kristina, and a great grandchild Sydney Borg, a brother Boyd McGuire, and a sister Mary Kieper.
