Milan Kay Swanson, 79, of Walthill, Nebraska passed away Thursday, August 1, 2013, surrounded by his family at his home in Walthill, NE. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 5, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Walthill, NE; with Pastor Brion Tolzman officiating. Visitation will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. Burial with Military Honors will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Milan was born on November 5, 1933, to Martin Sr. and Edith (Gabriel) Swanson in Walthill, NE. He attended school in Walthill. Milan married Kathy Shaw on November 23, 1956 in Walthill. To this union seven children were born. Milan was a lifelong farmer and had a great love for horses, especially his Appaloosa. He raised miniature horses and collected Antique International Tractors. He also enjoyed woodworking. Milan was an active member of the Lyons American Legion and was very proud of his heritage as a United States Marine. Milan loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Milan is survived by his wife Kathy of Walthill, NE; son Kirk Swanson of Chapman, NE; daughters Kim Swanson and fiancé Chad Burris of Sioux City, IA, Karla (Dan) Kuehn of Sioux City, IA, Kitty (Micheal) McNeill of Walthill, NE; sister Alice Hayes of Sioux City, IA; brothers Russell (Joyce) Swanson of Walthill, NE, James Sr. (Peggy) Swanson of Homer, NE, Lyle (Lea) Swanson of Liberal, KS; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Milan is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Ray Swanson and Martin Bud Swanson, Jr.; sister Celeste O’Conner; and three infant children Leonard Scott, Timothy Ray and Christina Fay.
