Eugene W. Kratky

Eugene William Kratky, 85, of Thurston, NE passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Heritage of Emerson in Emerson, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10:30 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender, NE; with Father Gerald Leise officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Rosehill Cemetery in Pender, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Pender, NE from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary beginning at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Eugene William Kratky was born October 20, 1928 in Prague, NE the son of Louis and Marie (Frohner) Kratky. In 1936, Gene’s family moved to Thurston where he attended Thurston High School graduating in 1945. He farmed with his father and brother until leaving for the United States Army, where he served in Korea. After the war he returned to Thurston where he continued to farm with his dad. In 1960 he married Lois Breitkreutz. To this Union five children were born: Connie, Cynthia, Sharon, Nancy and Robert. The couple made their home in Thurston. Lois died on December 27, 1994. Gene was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church, the Thurston American Legion, and Pender VFW and a retired member of the Thurston Volunteer Fire Department. Gene is survived by his daughters: Connie and husband Clark Mohlfeld of Wisner, NE, Sharon Kratky of Omaha, NE, Nancy and husband Terry Tyrrell of North Bend, NE, Robert and wife Tammy Kratky of Dakota City NE, grandchildren; Brandon and Dalton Mohlfeld, Cassandra and Adrienne Tyrrell , and Michelle and Nolan Kratky, a sister Leona and husband Glen Doupnik of Pender, NE, sister- in- laws; Burla Dean Renz of Pender, NE, Jeannie Kratky of Pender, NE, and Joyce Puls, of Des Moines, IA, Jackie Posekany of Des Moines, IA, Donna and her husband Howard Farber of Onawa, IA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Gene was preceded in death by his wife; Lois, parents; Louis and Marie Kratky, brothers; Leroy Kratky and Louis Kratky, and an infant daughter; Cynthia.
