Arlene Rose (Burow) Petersen, 88, of Pender, NE, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Legacy Gardens in Pender, NE. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Pender Fire Hall in Pender, NE. Online condolences may be left at munderlohfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE. Arlene was born February 14, 1926 to Walter and Hertha (Broderson) Burow in rural Battle Creek, IA. She attended two years of college at Morningside College in Sioux City, IA. On October 25, 1946, she married Lewis Petersen at the Lutheran Church in Battle Creek, IA. Arlene was a house mother for Gamma Phi Beta at Iowa State University. Arlene was a member of the Eastern Star, the American Legion Auxiliary, PEO, and Questers. She was also a member of the Iowa State Faculty Wives and a member of the United Church of Pender. She took interest in old barns, and was a member of the Iowa Barn Association. Arlene enjoyed playing bridge, cooking, gardening and reading. She was very proud of her vintage clothing and gave programs displaying them. Arlene loved traveling in the RV and most importantly being with her family. Arlene is survived by her son; Kirk (Mari) Petersen of Hampton, IA, daughters; Patrice (Michael) Sharp of Pender, NE and Natalie (Larry) Coubrough of Loveland, CO, niece, Judee (Bob) Albert of Falcon, CO, grandchildren; Dustin Schwab of Orlando, FL, Kelsey Schwab of Cedar Falls, IA, Kendra Petersen of Ames, IA, Hannah Petersen of Ames, IA, Chad (Sarah) Sharp of Arlington, NE, Justin (Jessica) Sharp of Sioux Falls, SD, Adam (Natalie) Sharp of Lincoln, NE, Stephanie (Matt) Carter of Nickerson, NE, Andrew Coubrough of Chantilly, VA, and Cole Coubrough of Hutchinson, MN, and 8 great grandchildren. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Lewis Petersen, son; Stephen Petersen, daughter; Cynthia Petersen, two sisters and one brother.
