Caroline G. Gordon

Caroline G. (Salmon) Gordon, 95, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Monday, October 12, 2015 at the Wakefield Health Care Center in Wakefield, NE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 16, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, NE; Father David Liewer will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield; with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Anne Catholic Church Cemetery near Dixon. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements. Caroline was born on November 20, 1919 at her parents’ home in Concord, NE, the seventh of fifteen children to Fred D. and Helena (Mecke) Salmon. Caroline graduated from Concord High School in 1937. Following graduation, Caroline worked for Salmon Well Co. and Fischer Store in Concord, NE. In 1942, Caroline moved to San Jose, CA, where she went to work for Pacific Telephone Co. She worked as a local and long distance operator in San Jose, and then at Pleasant Naval Base, where she assisted military personnel in making calls to friends and family. Caroline married Carroll Gordon on May 10, 1944 at Camp Parks, CA. After Carroll’s discharge from the Navy, they lived in Mobile, AL until 1956, when Caroline returned with her children to Wakefield and went to work for Salmon Well Co. Caroline worked at the well company for fifty years with her dad, brothers, nephews and great nephews. She is survived by her three children: Gene (Rita) Gordon of Omaha, Ne, Dennis Gordon of Antioch, TN and Mary (Norman) Cooper of Madison, SD. She is also survived by her brothers: Kenneth (Phyllis) Salmon and Dean (Phyllis) Salmon of Wakefield, NE, sisters; Mae Schwarten and Irene Manto of Wakefield, NE and Mary Ann Garvin of Dixon, NE, five grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, four great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers and three sisters.
