Eldon “Eldy” R. Nixon, 73 of Wakefield died on Saturday, March 05, 2016 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Barb Hansen will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation. Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is in charge of the arrangements. Eldon Ray Nixon was born in Pender, Nebraska on December 8, 1942 to Wilma (Schnier) and Ivan Nixon. The family later moved to Wakefield, Nebraska, where Eldon attended Wakefield Public Schools and graduated in 1960. Eldy continued his education at the College of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota graduating in 1964. He began his career as an X-ray Technician at the Tilden Community Hospital in Tilden, Nebraska in 1964. In 1966 Eldy enlisted in the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served until 1968. Eldy then returned to Wakefield in 1968 where he became the Wakefield Community Hospital Administrator/Lab & X-Ray Technician until 1974. In 1974, the Milton G. Waldbaum Company hired him where he worked as a manager until his retirement in 2009. Throughout the years, Eldy continued working as a clerk in the family auctioneering business traveling and enjoying a variety of people and venues throughout the United States for decades. Eldon was married in 1968 to Carol Cooper of Decatur, Nebraska. The marriage of 34 years brought 3 children into his life: Tysha K. Nixon of Omaha; Thad Nixon of Pender, NE; and Tory Nixon of Gretna, NE. Eldy was also the grandfather of 9 grandchildren and was looked up to and enjoyed by the company of many. Eldy is survived by his children: Tysha Nixon of Omaha, NE; Thad (Megan Fischer) Nixon of Pender, NE; Tory (Sandy Ronspies) Nixon of Gretna, NE, 9 grandchildren, a sister Jan (Clayton) Stalling of Vermillion, SD; brothers: Mert (Marlene) Nixon of David City, NE, Lonnie (Marcia) Nixon of Laurel, NE; sister-in-law Marlys Nixon of Wakefield, NE and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Willie Nixon.
