Kenneth G. Schroeder

Kenneth G. Schroeder, 86, of Wakefield, Nebraska died on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, NE.  Funeral services for Ken will be held on Friday, February 17, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield; Pastor Patti Meyer will be officiating.  The visitation will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2017 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Bressler - Munderloh - Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield.  Burial with military honors will be in the Wakefield Cemetery. Ken was born on December 18, 1930 in West Point, NE, the son of John and Carybel (Baumer) Schroeder.  At an early age, the family moved to Wakefield; where Ken attended and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1949.  Shortly after graduation, Ken joined the United States Air Force.  On July 29, 1951, Ken was united in marriage to Charlene Kinney at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Wakefield.  To this union two children were born; Janell and Jerel.  The couple farmed north of Wakefield where they continued to live after his retirement in 1993.  He also worked part time with Terra Industries and Salmon Well. Ken was a past secretary – treasurer of the N.E. Nebraska Feeders Association, a member of the Board of Directors of Wakefield Development Corporation, Board of Director of Wakefield Enterprise, Vice President of the Wakefield Community Foundation and a member of Salem Lutheran Church.  Ken was an avid outdoorsman.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He hunted turkey, deer, pheasants, ducks, geese and elk.  He went to Canada fishing 33 times.  The first five times with his dad and seventeen times with his son, Jerel along with many area fisherman.  Starting in 1978, Ken spent the next 39 years improving a lot on the Missouri River, where he and his family spent time together.  He also spent many years collecting license plates.  His collection is in Sidelines restaurant in Wakefield and included every county in Nebraska, every state of the U.S. and several from other countries. He is survived by his wife Charlene of Wakefield, NE; daughter, Janell Sila of Sioux City, IA; son Jerel (Leann) Schroeder of Wakefield, NE; five grandchildren; Lydell Sila of Sioux City, IA,  Julie (Steve) Lamoureux of Wayne, NE, Karen (Rudy) Rodriguez of Omaha, NE, Kristi (Aaron) Bose of Louisville, NE and Kelly Schroeder of Omaha, NE; and his great grandchildren Ethan and Ariah Rodriguez.  Ken is also survived by his sister, Maevis Bahde of Kearney, NE and several nieces and nephews. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Bonnie (Gordon) Bressler and Alice Schroeder; brother and sister-in-law Jack Schroeder and Mabel Dodd; brother-in-law Donald Bahde and twin great grandchildren Aiden and Gisella Rodriguez.
