Douglas Warren Burmester

Douglas “Doug” Warren Burmester, 46, died on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska.  A memorial service for Doug will be held on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE; Pastor Charity Potter will be officiating.  There will be a lunch following the service at the Pender Fire Hall.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  In honor of Doug, the family asks that you dress in your favorite Husker gear and blue jeans for the service.  Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Pender is in charge of the arrangements.    Doug was born on June 18, 1970 in Pender, Ne, the son of Warren and Linda (Schmeckpeper) Burmester.  He attended and graduated from Pender High School in 1988.  After graduation, Doug worked for the Pender Dehy and for the past 26 years, he has worked for Blue Jet Manufacturing in Thurston, NE. On April 25, 2014, Doug was united in marriage to Renee Nixon at Ponca, Nebraska.    Doug was a member of the Pender Betterment Group, enjoyed the time spent fishing, road tripping, grilling and sitting around camp fires and playing with his nieces and nephews..  Doug loved touring different meat lockers, was a member of the Chicken Pit Grilling Crew and was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker Fan.   He is survived by his wife Renee of Wakefield, NE; parents, Warren and Linda Burmester of Pender, NE; sisters, Shari (Corbet) Dorsey of Bancroft, NE, Deb (Russ) Parrott of Lincoln, NE; mother-in-law, Marlys Nixon of Wakefield, NE; and brother-in-law Rod (Ginger) Nixon of Wakefield, NE.  Doug is also survived by nieces and nephews and their families, Kyle Dorsey of Sioux City, IA and Brandon Dorsey of Bancroft, NE, Carley and Helen Parrott of Lincoln, NE, Ty (Karna) Nixon and Ava and Hank of Tea, SD, Katie (Brandon) Koopman and Marjorie and Emerson of Eustis, NE, Joel (Lexi) Nixon of Omaha, NE and Mason Nixon (Michelle Thille) and Marlowe of Lakeside, CA.   Doug was preceded in death by his grandparents, Miles and Arlene Burmester and Ed and Viola Schmeckpeper; brother Richard Warren; father-in-law Willie Nixon and good friend Paul Thomsen.
