Anna M Burmester

July 4, 1936 — May 2, 2024

Anna M. (Bouchal) Burmester, 87, formerly of Walthill, NE, died on Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, NE.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill, NE.  Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.   Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.  

Anna was born on July 4, 1936, on the family farm near Walthill, NE, to Walther and Agnes (Hudec) Bouchal.  She attended country school until she transferred to high school, where she graduated from Walthill High School in 1954.  On September 30, 1961, Anna married Wilhelm Burmester at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Walthill.  To this union, the couple had three girls.  

Anna worked several jobs in northeast Nebraska, including Smith’s Café, the Pender Post Office and cleaned at the Pender Legion Hall.  She spent several years as a caregiver in the area, visiting people in their homes.  Anna liked playing bingo and spending time in her garden.  She always had a surplus of tomatoes and strawberries.  She liked her pets and all the animals she was around.   She was proud of her catholic faith and supported the Archdiocese of Omaha and the Special Olympics.   Anna loved her family and spending time with them, especially her grandchildren.  

Anna is survived by her daughters, Martha Gill of Cherokee, IA,  Sandy (Michael) Francis of Oakland, NE, Jean (Jason) Knievel of West Point, NE; brother, James “Jim” Bouchal of Walthill, NE; grandchildren, Shannon (Shane) Cates, Jim (Lisa) Gill, Mike Gill, Brent (Charlie) Gill, Joshua (Andrea) Francis, Jason (Hollie) Francis, Amanda (Brad) Nelson, Ashley (Jeremy) Vanek, Jordan Doerneman; 25 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.  

Anna is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Rose Mary (Gerald) Nelson, Elizabeth “Betty” Jo; brothers, John Bouchal, Paul Bouchal; and son-in-law, Daniel Gill.
