George Lee Johnson

December 27, 1943 — January 21, 2020

George Lee Johnson, 76, of Thurston, NE, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, January 21, 2020.  Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. John’s Lutheran Church near Pender, with Reverend Robert Schilling officiating.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.  Burial will at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery near Pender.  Memorials are suggested to St. John’s Lutheran Church, Orphan Grain Train, and Hospice of Siouxland.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender.

George was born on December 27, 1943 in Pender, NE, the son of Earl and Violet (Sebade) Johnson.  He attended Thurston High School and graduated in 1961.  George married Marilyn Predoehl on July 3, 1966 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Pender.  To this union two sons were born, Daniel and Gale.

George grew up on the farm, where he started his career farming with his father.  He was a “do it all” kind of guy.  Throughout George’s his life he was a Cook in the National Guard, the Mayor of Thurston, he worked at the Thurston Meat Locker as a Meat Cutter, he was a part of the Thurston Rural Fire Department and Rescue, the Treasurer for Thurston Rural Fire District Board.  George was a hard working and honest man; he never spoke a bad word about anyone, and his grandkids hobbies were his hobbies, they were his pride.

George is proceeded in death by his parents; infant sister, Karlo.

George is survived by his wife, Marilyn Johnson of Thurston, NE; son, Daniel (Sheri) of Thurston, grandchildren, Zack (Samantha), Drake, and Karlee; great grandchild, Hayes; son, Gale (Tabitha) of Imperial, NE; grandchildren, Cameron and Landon; brother, Leon (Mary) of Lincoln, NE.
