James was born on January 23, 1933, in Rapid City, SD to Charles S. and Grace (Barber) McClain.  James’ family moved to Walthill from South Dakota when he was 9 years old.  On July 28, 1951, James married Peggy D. Woten.

James was a life-long mechanic and enjoyed being his own boss.  He spent numerous hours teaching his kids how to repair cars and basic mechanical skills.  When he wasn’t working on vehicles, James liked to mow his yard and go fishing and hunting.  James loved his children and grandchildren and tried spending as much time as possible with them.  Occasionally he would travel back to South Dakota and reminisce about his life there.  And without a doubt, he was still the boss!

James is survived by his children, Jack (Heather) McClain of Norfolk, Scott (Tina) McClain of Fremont, GayLynn McClain of Bancroft, Michelle Davis of Bancroft, Lori (Alan) Moody of Emerson; 13 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren.

James is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Peggy; companion of 35 years, Donna Loos; sons, Jimmy C. McClain, Arthur E. McClain; 3 brothers; 4 sisters; son-in-law, Chuck Davis; and great-granddaughter, Alonna Moore.
