Janice E. Daberkow

November 30, 1937 — June 14, 2023

Janice Evelyn (Drummond) Daberkow, 85, of Bancroft, NE passed away at the Wisner Care Center in Wisner, NE on June 14, 2023.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft with Rev. Nathan Henschen officiating.  Visitation will be held on Friday, June 16 from 5-7 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.  Interment will be in the Bancroft Cemetery.

Janice was born on November 30, 1937, in Crescent City, CA to Elmer and Francis Irene (Babbitt) Drummond, the youngest of seven children.  The family moved back to Nebraska when she was a few months old.  She attended school at Divide Center, east of Lyons, District 50 in Cuming County, and Lyons Elementary.  She graduated from Bancroft High School in 1955.

Throughout her growing up years, Janice enjoyed piano lessons, movies, swimming, photography, bicycling, detasseling, and kitties.  In January 1948, she moved with her family to Salem, OR where her father and brother worked in the timber, returning to Lyons, a few months later.

Janice married her friend, Marvin Daberkow, in 1955 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, officiated by Rev. W. E. Homann.  They raised 5 children, Beth, Laurie, Ken, Rock, & Ronny, while farming west of Bancroft.  Janice loved her big family, including 17 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren.

Janice loved music all her life.  She was an organist at St. Paul’s in Bancroft for over 40 years.  She also loved sewing, cooking, baking, and Bible Study.  She cared for residents as a CNA at Colonial Haven in Beemer, NE for 10 years.  Marvin and Janice enjoyed square dancing with the Bustles & Beaus Club.  Janice's relationship with her Savior, Jesus, was lived out in her life.  She was the best letter writer and card sender ever!

Janice is survived by her husband, Marvin, of 68 years.  Their children: daughters, Beth and David Hiatt, Minden, NE and Laurie and Mel Brokaw, Bancroft, NE; sons, Ken and Jane Daberkow, Madison, NE, Rock and Deb Daberkow, Cameron, NC, and Ronny and Kae Daberkow, Lyons, NE; Beth and David Hiatt’s children: Darci and Chase Hosier and children Kaleb, Jezreel, Nyah, Lillian, and Abigail; Bill and Anna Hiatt; Tim and Lisa Hiatt and children Elise and Arabella; Hannah Hiatt; Mel and Laurie Brokaw’s children: Craig and Melissa Brokaw and children Ari, Miriel, and Laurel; Candi and Brett Menze and children Rylee and Emery; Carmen and Andy Wolfe and children Austin and Ethan; Cayla and Brian Freeman and children Hensley and Burke; Ken and Jane Daberkow’s children: Annie and Jim Vandermeer and children Adah, Cora, Maggie, Josephine, Vivian, Eliza, and James; Patrick and Emly Daberkow and children Kinley, Brynn, Roman, and Blake Emma; Dayton and Whitney Daberkow and children Ruby, Elliot, Thatcher, and Juniper; Alayna and Matt McFarling and child Bridger; Emelia Daberkow; Rock and Deb Daberkow’s children: Jessee and Vanessa Daberkow and children Kirra and Royce; Jacob Daberkow and his fiancé Monique Ellapen; Ronny and Kae Daberkow’s children:  Brandi and Tim Mussack and child Revel; Morgan and Luke Thiele and children Madison and Joslyn; in-laws: Roberta and Glenn Kai, Delwyn Daberkow, Richard and Sharon Daberkow, and Lauren and JoAnn Daberkow; many nieces and nephews.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents in 1983; brother, Jesse Drummond; sisters: Grace (Bob Case) (Ellsworth) Dose, Ruth (Bill) Paulsen, Hope (Gordon) Gatzemeyer, Lelah (Lyle) Farrens, and Mildred (Bross) (Doyle) Fox; in-laws: Robert and Laura (Mohl) Daberkow, and Joyce Daberkow.
