Leland J. Mackey

Leland Jon Mackey, 87 of Bancroft, NE, died on Tuesday, August 24, 2021, at his home near Bancroft.  Funeral services for Leland will be held on Friday, August 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft; Pastor Nathan Henschen will be officiating.  The visitation will be held on Thursday, August 26, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Bancroft.  Burial with military honors will be in the Bancroft Cemetery. 

Leland was born on December 24, 1933, at his parent's farm near Bancroft, NE; the son of Oscar and Iva (Cook) Mackey.  He attended and graduated from high school in 1950 from Bancroft, NE.  Following school, he farmed for a short time before entering the United States Army.  After his discharge, Leland returned home to Bancroft where he farmed.  On September 1, 1957, he was united in marriage to Lois Munderloh at Bancroft, NE.  To this union two children were born, Randall and Christine.  Leland and Lois enjoyed traveling.  Leland served many years with the Bancroft American Legion, where he served as commander.  He also was a member of the Forty and Eight, the Bancroft Co-op Board, and served two terms on the Bancroft – Rosalie School Board.  Besides traveling, Leland also enjoyed playing cards and visiting.

He is survived by his wife Lois of Bancroft, NE; son, Randall (Rene) Mackey of Yorktown, VA; daughter, Christine (Rob) Lillard of Wakefield, NE; brother, Ron (Leeta) Mackey of Surprise, AZ; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Iva; sister, Ima Jean Tonjes, and brother, Norman D. Mackey.
