Lyle R. Storm

February 9, 1924 — January 29, 2018

Lyle Raymond Storm, 93, of the Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, Iowa and formerly of Walthill and Lyons, Nebraska, passed away January 29, 2018 at Burgess Health Care in Onawa, IA.  Funeral services for Lyle will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, NE; Rev. Heidi Wallace will be officiating.  The visitation will be held on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Lyons, NE.  There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. on Friday evening.  Burial with military honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE.  In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Walthill Fire Department and the Walthill and Lyons Senior Centers.  Arrangements are with Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home in Pender. Lyle was born on the family farm near Decatur, NE on February 9, 1924 to Alfred and Lena (Harmon) Storm. Soon after graduating from Macy High School, Lyle was united in marriage to Alice Arlene Mitchell on September 16, 1942 in Dakota City, NE. Lyle entered the United States Army, where he served in the 104th Infantry and earned the Purple Heart.  He began working for the US Government in 1951, working in the ASCS office until his retirement on July 1, 1983.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 89 in Walthill and Lyons VFW #83. He was also a member of the Walthill Fire and Rescue Department, served as Fire Chief, and rescue member instructor. He is survived by sons, Raymond (Penny) Storm of Las Vegas, NV, Rodney (Joyce) Storm of Blair, NE, George (Terri) Storm of Granger, IA; daughters, Carol (Robert) Neilsen of Dow City, IA, Janice (Joel) Bring of Lyons, NE, Mary (Brad Gosch) Burhoop of Dow City, IA; brother, Lewis (Angela) Storm of Homer, NE, 25 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great grandchildren. Lyle was preceded in death by wife, Alice; parents, brothers, Lawrence Storm and Leon Storm; sister, Lavonna Holbrook, grandson, BJ Gosch; great-grandsons, Timothy Marten and Jacob Bull.
