Raymond H. Magnuson

November 13, 1928 — December 5, 2019

Raymond Herman Magnuson, Jr., 91, of Sioux City, IA passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 5, 2019, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City, IA.  The funeral service will be held on Monday, December 9, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield, NE; with Pastor Patti Meyer officiating.  The visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral at the church.  Burial will be in the Wakefield City Cemetery in Wakefield, NE.  Memorials are suggested to Salem Lutheran Church in Wakefield.  Arrangements are under the direction of Bressler-Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Wakefield, NE. 

Raymond was born on November 13, 1928, to Raymond H., Sr., and Anna M. (Messerschmidt) Magnuson in Emerson, Nebraska.  He was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Allen.  Ray attended school in Allen and later received his GED in Fort Dodge.  He worked for 25 years at Swift Packing House in Sioux City and later became self employed by cutting trees and limbs for various years and refurbishing roofs.  Ray worked hard all the way up to his retirement.  During his retirement years he enjoyed watching old westerns and Fox News as well as nightly visits from his family.  Ray liked sharing cookies with his great grandson who gave him the nick name “Sugar Ray”.

Raymond is survived by his sons, Robert Magnuson (friend, Kathryn Cole) of Fort Meyers, FL, Richard (Pam) Magnuson of Sioux City, IA, Roy Magnuson of Sioux City, IA, Marvin Magnuson of Sioux City, IA; daughters, Lori (Bill) Kurtz of Colorado Springs, CO, Susan Vega of Sioux City, IA, Lisa Estevez of Sioux City, IA, Raeanna Magnuson of Hastings, MN; sister, Joann (Monnie) Stoltz of Dakota City, NE; brothers, William Magnuson of Bancroft, NE, Gene (Grace) Magnuson of Milwaukee, WI; 28 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. 

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Robin Magnuson; brother, John (Dawn) Magnuson; sister-in-law, Mary Magnuson.
