Sharon Starzl

Sharon Kaye (Portsche) Starzl, 61, of Emerson, Nebraska passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 1, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson; Father Gerald Leise will be celebrating Mass. The visitation will be Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Emerson. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation. Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Emerson. Sharon was born November 21, 1956 to Kenneth Portsche and Betty (Wadkins) Goecke in Lincoln, NE. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975 and attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln where she received her teaching degree. She taught for two years in Hastings, and thirty years at South Sioux City School. While teaching, she made many lifelong friends. Sharon married John Louis Starzl on July 18, 1987 and the couple had three children.  She enjoyed time and trips spent with her family and friends, working on the farm, reading a good book, and her flowers. She is survived by her husband, John Starzl of Emerson, NE; sons, Daniel (Jody) Starzl of Emerson, NE, Michael (Kara) Starzl of Emerson, NE; daughter, Elizabeth (Taylor) McManigal of Emerson; grandson, William Starzl of Emerson, NE; sisters, Linda (Kevin) Branigan of Omaha, NE, Pam Kellogg of Durango, CO; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, the Lincoln girls, and many special friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Betty Portsche and parents-in-law, Louis and Mary Starzl.
