Verlan D. Hingst

August 30, 1941 — April 30, 2023

Verlan Dean Hingst, 81, of Allen, NE, died on Sunday, April 30, 2023, surrounded by his family at his home. A memorial service for Verlan will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Allen, Vicar Deb Hammer will be officiating.  A memorial visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Bressler – Munderloh – Smith Funeral Home of Wakefield is assisting with the services.

 Verlan was born on August 30, 1941, along with his twin brother, Lelan, the son of Harland and Marie (Reher) Hingst. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Emerson. Verlan graduated from Emerson High School in 1958. On September 16, 1962, he was united in marriage to Victoria Larson at First Lutheran Church in Allen. To this union, three children were born. Verlan owned Hingst Plumbing before he began farming near Allen. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, gardening, golfing, and camping. He also loved to bowl, play cards, wood-working, work on puzzles, and go square dancing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. Verlan was a church council member, volunteer firefighter, school board member, Boy Scout leader and, he took an active role in United Marriage Encounter.

Verlan is survived by his wife Victoria of Allen, NE; daughter, Michelle Saxen of Corning, IA; sons, Micheal (Brenda) Hingst of Allen, NE, Matthew (Denise) Hingst of Allen, NE; eight grandchildren, Joshua Malcom, Derek Hingst, Codi (Jacob) Cline, Jacob (Sarah) Malcom, Rett (Kaylie) Hingst, Brooke (Jacob) Hansen, Briana Hingst (fiancé Austin Ostrand), Reed Hingst; five great-grandchildren, Emersyn, Harper, Kayden, Milo, and Gage; two step-granddaughters, Jordan Medbourn, and Jessi Hall along with 13 step-great-grandchildren; brother, Dennis (Ida) Hingst of Holdrege, NE; sisters, Reta (Jim) Bodwell of Pilger, NE, Diane (Dave) Jensen of Pilger, NE, Carolyn (Dean) Sievers of Holdrege, NE; and sister-in-law, Judy Hingst of Emerson, NE. Along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marlan, Rollan, and Lelan Hingst.
