Wayne M. Meyer

July 19, 1927 — November 11, 2019

Wayne Melvin Meyer, 92, of  Pender, NE passed away on Monday, November 11, 2019 at Legacy Garden Rehabilitation and Living Center in Pender, NE.  A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2019, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Munderloh – Smith Funeral Hme in Pender, NE.  A prayer service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.  Private family graveside service will be held in the Bancroft Cemetery in Bancroft, NE.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh -Smith Funeral Home in Pender.

Wayne was born on July 19, 1927 in Alpena, South Dakota to William and Lillie (Holm) Meyer.

At the age of two, his family moved to a farm near Bancroft, Nebraska. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his brothers, William “Woody”, Glen, Jim, and sister Betty.  Wayne attended Bancroft High School and graduated in 1945. One of his accomplishments was qualifying for the 1 mile race for state track.  In 1947, he and his brother, Glen started farming together.  On July 9, 1950, he was united in marriage to Bernice Munderloh at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Bancroft, NE.  To this union three children were born, Patty, Steven and Michael.

Wayne and Barney Fuller started the Cloverleaf 4-H Livestock Club, and made many memories.  After retiring from farming, he and Bernice managed the Covenant Cedars Bible Camp for several years.  They then moved back into Pender.  He also worked at the Farmers Union Co-op, Pender Sale Barn and was a Thurston/Dakota Fair Board member.  Wayne was a long time member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Pender, where he taught Sunday School for many years.

He is survived by his three children, Patty (Dana) Arndt of Lincoln, NE, Steven (Mary) Meyer of Pender, NE, Michael (JoAnn) Meyer of Lincoln, NE; ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.  Wayne is also survived by brothers, Woody (Reva) Meyer of Missouri, Jim (Louise) Meyer of Missouri, sister-in-law Shirley Meyer of Bancroft, NE and many nieces and nephews.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Bernice, sister, Betty and brother, Glen.
