Lillian Ann Schmale, 71, of Emerson, Nebraska, passed away on Monday, February 11, 2013 at her home in rural Emerson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, with Father Gerald Leise officiating. A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 to 8:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. The family will greet friends from 5:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday evening. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery in Emerson. Lillian was born on September 4, 1941 in Crofton, Nebraska, the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Gentrup) Schmale. She attended school, graduating from Sacred Heart Catholic School in Emerson. She worked as a clerk for the Northeast Nebraska Power District. After her retirement she worked part time for Central Plains Insurance. During her years of retirement she also enjoyed traveling with her brothers to farm shows, cattle sales and Tractor auctions. Most important to Lillian was her faith. She was active in Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Emerson, serving on the Altar Society, teaching CCD. She also enjoyed gardening and lawn care, playing with her nieces and nephews, baking and canning, shopping, being a meticulous housekeeper, playing cards and Yahtzee, and playing croquet with her nieces and nephews. She also enjoyed music and dancing, especially polka. Lillian is survived by her brothers: Francis, Ferdinand and Edwin Schmale of Emerson, NE, sister-in-law Dorothy French and her husband Darrell of Carroll, NE, nieces and nephews: Ed Schmale of Carroll, NE, Kathy (Ray) Johnson of Pilger, NE, Janet (Chad) Ludwig of Wisner, NE, Mary (Todd) Jenkins of Carroll, NE, Len (Khristy) Schmale also of Carroll, Diane (Mike) Vovos of Wayne, NE, David (Mary) French of Carroll, NE, and Doug (Melanie) French of Wayne, NE. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Leonard Schmale, an infant brother Edward Schmale and a great nephew, Kaden Schmale.
