Larry R. Tremayne

November 6, 1934 — October 31, 2020

Larry R. Tremayne, 85, of Omaha, NE died on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2020 at a Hospital in Omaha, NE.  Graveside service will be on Thursday, Nov. 5, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Cemetery in Walthill, NE.  Visitation will be Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2020 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.  Memorials are suggested to the family for future designation.  Arrangements are under the direction of Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home in Pender, NE.

Larry was born on November 6, 1934 on the home place near Walthill, the son of Richard and Nellie (Christensen) Tremayne.   He graduated from Walthill High school in 1952. 

Larry farmed in the Walthill area from 1952-1955, then moved to Rockford, IL and worked in a machine shop for W.F. and John Banes from 1955-1957. 

Larry joined the Army in 1957, he was with 128th Signal Corp until 1959.  He then worked for Western Electric in Omaha, NE until 1961, when he was called back into the Army.  He was with 140th signal Corp until 1962. After returning home, he returned to his job at Western Electric in Omaha and gave 41 years of service.  He retired in 2000.

Larry was very proud and honored to have served in the US Army for our great Nation, and equally proud to have served in the workforce for 41 years.  Larry was proud of his high school football career accomplishments.  He was congratulated by Nebraska Governor Val Peterson in 1951, on his being chosen for the All-State Football Squad his Junior year.  The enjoyment of football continued throughout his life.

Larry was instrumental along with other windmill enthusiasts in bringing the Windmill Convention to Nebraska, where he was able to showcase his amazing collection of windmill weights along with other collectors. 

Larry loved to visit, and he never met a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone.  He was a wealth of information on several topics and if he did not know about something he would read and research until he knew. 

Larry was an avid antique and collectibles pursuer.  He loved the history and the stories that accompanied many of his treasures.

Larry was well rounded and enjoyed many activities of which included, traveling, his collection of windmill weights and the windmill admirers he became lifelong friends with, square dancing, rodeos and learning, always learning and sharing that knowledge with the many friends and acquaintances he met along life’s highway.

Larry loved spending time with family, he enjoyed talking about a plethora of topics and had many stories to share.

Larry is survived by his sister-in-law, Sharon Tremayne of Sioux City, IA; nephews, Tom (Diana) Sharp, of Batavia, IL, Dennis “Jake” (Sandy) Tremayne of Walthill, NE, Dan (Paula) Tremayne of Trenton, GA, Randy (Lori) Tremayne of Homer, NE; niece, Tammy Mohnson of Homer, NE; 7 great nephews; 2 great nieces; 7 great-great nephews; 2 great-great nieces.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Fred Tremayne, Don Tremayne; sister, Darlene Sharp; brother-in-law, Richard Sharp; sister-in-law, Karlyne Tremayne; nephew, Gene Tremayne.
